Added to my TBR: September 30
The following books have just been either added to or bumped up my TBR pile:
► The Mystery of Drear House (1987), by Virginia Hamilton
The sequel to The House of Dies Drear, published almost twenty years after the first book!
As was the case with A Watcher in the Woods, I had NO IDEA that those old Disney movies were based on books. I hope they're just as weird as Watcher.
► Unbought and Unbossed (1970), by Shirley Chisholm
Memoir by politician Shirley Chisholm: the first Black Congresswoman, the first Black candidate for a major party's presidential nomination, and the first woman to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination. Gosh. I WONDER WHY SHE'S BEEN ON MY MIND lately...
► All-of-a-Kind Family (1951), by Sydney Taylor
I was talking to a patron yesterday about Hilary McKay's Casson series, which got me thinking about Beloved Literary Families like the Melendys and the Logans and the Tillermans, which made me think of this series... and I am horribly embarrassed to admit that I have never read it. (Feel free to recommend your favorite sprawling family sagas, by the way. I love them.)
► Charmed Life (1977), by Diana Wynne Jones
I just finished reading a book—review to come!—that featured one of the Worst Sisters Ever... which, of course, reminded me that it was time to revisit this book. Because Gwendolyn is also The Worst.
Next week, I'll be writing about:
The Firefly Letters: A Suffragette's Journey to Cuba, by Margarita Engle
